A list of dive sites accessible from Havelock Island
Nemo Reef:- This dive site serves as a training reef for certification courses and presents suitable conditions for a beginner. A sand patch serves as the training area, and the reef starts shallower than 2 meters. For the trained eye, this dive site is a treasure trove of macro sightings. A variety of Sea Anemones and Clownfish can be spotted at this reef. Suitable for beginners.
Tribe Gate:- Tribe Gate is another site perfectly suited for training dives. On most days you can already enjoy a view of the marine life while you’re still sitting on the boat. A little regiment of Sergeant major fish greets the boat as it arrives and can be seen from the surface, owing to the crystal-clear waters. The site is only a ten-minute boat ride away from the island and has some exciting marine life to explore. Suitable for beginners.
Red Pillar:-The pillars at Red Pillar hold up a channel marker that helps ferries navigate. Underwater, the pillars are covered with colorful coral. Large Barrel sponges and fan coral make this site an exciting experience. Stingrays give us a surprise ever so often at this reef. Suitable for beginners.
The Slope:-Underwater ridges that begin as shallow as four meters and extend to a depth of about 16 meters can be seen at The Slope. A variety of coral can be found on rock mounds and cleaner wrasse and shrimp can often be spotted waiting for the next fish that needs a good clean-up. Suitable for beginners.
The Wall:-The ridges from The Slope continue to form a wall-like structure underwater. This is one of the most popular dive sites close to Havelock. The Wall goes deeper than 50 meters in parts. Large Groupers, Marble Rays, a school of Jacks can commonly be seen at The Wall. Suitable for certification courses and certified divers.
Turtle Beach:-The beach close to this dive site was a common nesting ground for turtles. Turtles would emerge from the beach and race towards the waters. However, due to some factors, this phenomenon is no longer common. The reef is still worth a visit because of the colorful coral in the shallows. This site is also exciting for snorkelers. Suitable for beginners.
White House Rock:-White House Rock is a hill-like formation that emerges from a sandy bottom at a depth of more than 30 meters, coming up to the shallowest point of eight meters. While one side of the hill is covered in colorful hard coral, the other side displays white soft coral. The dive site is a 45-minute boat ride away from Havelock and makes for an exciting dive. Suitable for certification courses and certified divers.
S.S. Inchket:-In the 1950s a ship transporting coal had an accident which resulted in it resting at the bottom of the sea. The wreck is now vibrant with marine life. Parts of the ship like the propellors, an anchor, a boiler can still be identified clearly at this site. Pieces of coal cover the ground surrounding the wreck. Suitable for certification courses and certified divers.
Johnny’s Gorge:-A favorite dive site for many of our advanced divers, Johnny’s Gorge can not be missed. A 40-minute boat rides away, Johnny’s Gorge is a sight out of the best underwater nature documentaries you can imagine. Rays, sharks, turtles, and groupers can commonly be seen here. Suitable for advanced divers.
Dickson’s Pinnacles:-Another top favorite amongst our divers, Dickson’s Pinnacles is a set of hill-shaped structures emerging from a sandy bottom, coming up to the shallowest point of 17 meters. The reef is covered in neon-colored soft coral. The fish life is exciting and abundant. Napoleon wrasse, Jacks, a variety of shrimp, and more are sure-shot sightings here. Suitable for advanced divers.
Jackson’s Bar:-Always full of surprises; Jackson’s Bar is one of the best that Havelock has to offer. A large school of snappers, a grouper the size of a small car, or a mesmerizing honeycomb Moray could all greet you at Jackson’s Bar. Every so often the top of this bar-shaped reef is covered by a carpet of stingrays. Suitable for advanced divers.
