Scuba diving for certified divers at one of the remotest locations in the world
Jackson’s Bar
Jackson’s Bar is one of our deep dive sites accessible to those with Advanced certifications. This rectangular shaped reef lies deeper than 18 meters and is home to schools of barracuda, giant groupers, huge schools of snappers and more. Often while diving at Jackson’s Bar divers find a carpet of stingrays all over the reef.
Johnny’s Gorge
Johnny’s Gorge is one of our most popular dive sites. The reef goes down to a maximum depth of 28 meters. White Tip Reef sharks are commonly spotted laying in the sand patch surrounding the reef. Giant Moray Eels, Marbled Stingrays and Giant Groupers can be seen inhabiting this reef. Divers have occasionally been visited by Eagle Rays and Devil Rays while diving at Johnny’s Gorge.
Dickson’s Pinnacles
It’s a wonderful fun diving site for advanced and deep divers. Dickson’s Pinnacles are a set of underwater hillocks covered in soft coral emerging from a sand patch. The reef starts at approximately 17 meters and goes down deeper than 30 meters in some parts. You can find Trevallies hunting for fusiliers, mackerel and anchovies just above the reef. Dickson’s Pinnacles is a cleaning station and fish can commonly be seen in the crevices of the reef getting cleaned up by a variety of shrimp.
The Wall
Imagine if you were standing at the edge of the world, but underwater. Diving at the edge of The Wall can seem something like that. A drop off going down to around 54 meters, The Wall starts shallow at a depth of around 12 meters. The dive site is suitable for both new and experienced divers. The dive site is named aptly based on its appearance resembling a rocky wall.
Broken Ledge
Broken Ledge can be best described as an elliptically shaped reef which seems like a space ship has crash landed under the sea. There are crevices under the reef that house a variety of sea creatures. While Garden Eels, Stingrays and Mantis Shrimps can be seen in the sand patch around the reef, the reef top at 16 meters is a good spot to hover at and look out for Trevallies on a hunt, turtles and sea snakes.
SS Inchket
SS Inchket is a 1950s shipwreck located close to Baratang Island. The reef is perfectly suited for Open Water certified divers going down to a maximum depth of 18 meters. The top of this wreck comes up to around 5 meters. This dive site is a favourite for those that come looking for macro sightings as little sea slugs and varieties of shrimp are spotted all over the reef. Charming Batfish schools follow divers around, intrigued by their bubbles. Parts of the shipwreck like the propeller and boiler lie perfectly intact and can be identified by divers.
White House Rock
A coral garden brimming with fish life, White House Rock, is named after the white fan coral that cover one side of this underwater hill-like structure. The other side of the reef has colourful hard coral. At White House Rock common sightings include Turtles, Octopus, Barracudas, Trevallies, Groupers and a lot of macro sightings too. The reef starts at 8 meters and is well suited for Open Water certified divers as well as for Advanced divers.
Nemo Reef
Nemo Reef is one of our shallow reefs that presents perfect conditions for training dives. This shore dive site starts as shallow as 1-2 meters and goes down to a maximum depth of 12 meters. Nemo Reef is suited well for the Try Scuba and Open Water programme but the marine life you can see here will give the Advanced divers much to look at also. Named after the clown fish character in the movie ‘Finding Nemo’, the dive site is perfect for a refresher programme and to familiarise yourself with the local conditions while diving around Havelock.
Red Pillar
Red Pillar lies at the edge of Peel Island and is named after the red channel marker situated at the reef which can be seen from Havelock jetty. The maximum depth at Red Pillar is around 12 meters and the shallowest part of the reef comes up to around 4-5 meters. A scooter and some tanks have been sunk at the site to make an artificial reef. The shallow parts of the reef are home to beautiful fan coral while a number of Stingrays can be seen on the sand patch around the edge of the reef.
Slope
There are underwater ridges that come up to around 5 meters and drop down to about 18 meters in a gradual sloping formation making this dive site. The reef is perfectly suited for Open Water divers and presents some exciting marine life sightings for the new diver. While some stretches of the reef are covered in whip coral and fan coral, Lobsters can be seen hiding under rock outcroppings. Schools of Fusiliers and other small fish cover the shallows of this dive site.
Responsible & Safe Scuba Diving Practices
Scuba diving is an extremely safe adventure activity when all guidelines are followed. We at Seahawks Scuba strictly follow the guidelines implemented around the world by Scuba Schools International (SSI) as well as the local administration in the Andamans. The dive professional accompanying you is your best buddy underwater. Stay close to him/her at all times and follow their instructions. They will remain right next to you throughout the experience and will point out the fish and coral life you shouldn’t miss out on. The professionals will also make sure that you get photographs and videos of the experience. Follow the training instructions thoroughly and communicate with them underwater to have an uninterrupted amazing fun diving experience. Do NOT touch the coral/reef OR fish for preservation purposes as well as for your own safety. If you’re ready for that then you’re ready for an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience.
