The Three Seasons

Let’s explore the best season to visit Andaman.

We’ve divided the year in Andaman into 3 sub-categories to make sense of the climate changes across different months.

Season in Andaman

“Season” in Andaman refers to a particular time or period when there’s a continuous flow of tourists to the prominent islands. As a result, airline operations from mainland India increase, and it’s considered a great time to visit.

It’s advisable to book hotels, inter-island ferries, and popular watersports activities in advance for a seamless experience. Group travellers might get exclusive deals or discounts on pre-bookings even during season.

Oct, mid-Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May

Super Peak Season in Andaman

“Super Peak Season” starts in November, December, and the first half of January — the highest peak season, when you’ll find everything fully booked.

Andaman also sees the highest tourist gatherings during festivals like Deepawali, Christmas, Durga Puja, and New Year’s Eve, when resorts and tourist spots are decorated with lights and music.

Off-Season in Andaman

June to September is the monsoon season, and consequently the off-season. Expect heavy rainfall, frequent cyclones, high humidity, and rough seas, resulting in fewer tourists.

Off-season offers a more tranquil atmosphere, empty beaches, and lush green natural beauty — though it’s not recommended for those keen on watersports, due to frequent rainfall and unpleasant underwater visibility.

Month by Month

The Andaman Islands’ tropical, coastal geography gives it three major seasons — the dry season with minimal rainfall, the summer season, and the rainy season; there are no winters here. Here’s a breakdown of the main seasons across the year.

Tourists enjoying Radhanagar Beach, Havelock, Andaman Islands

Best months to visit Andaman — December, January, and February

The best time to visit, with no rainfall and mostly sunny days — a pleasant time for watersport lovers to spend quality time in calm, clear seas and enjoy beach vacations. Temperatures reach 30°C during the day and drop to around 20°C at night, with low humidity.

Very good months to visit Andaman — March, October, and November

Highly recommended months, with mostly pleasant weather and no to minimal rain except for a few weeks in December and January. Humidity stays relatively low, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 29°C. Sea conditions are mostly calm, clear, and ideal for watersport activities.

Good months to visit Andaman — April and May

The summer months, with moderate tourist occupancy. The weather stays hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 33°C. Days are mostly warm and sunny with clear blue skies — perfect sea conditions for scuba diving, snorkelling, parasailing, sea walking, and other watersports. Stay hydrated, wear light clothes, and carry sun protection cream, a hat, and sunglasses.

Moderate months to visit Andaman — June, July, August & September

The monsoon months, not recommended for watersport and beach lovers. Expect moderate to high rainfall, strong winds, cyclone risk, and rough seas, which can disrupt travel plans and limit outdoor activities. Choppy seas cause poor underwater visibility, and ferries/flights may be disrupted. Tour costs run almost half of peak season, making these months suitable for those who don’t mind rain and aren’t keen on watersports.

Weather Patterns

Weather of the Andaman Islands.

The tropical climate and high humidity of Andaman make it one of the wettest regions of India. As per the region’s weather patterns, the northern islands are a few degrees cooler compared to the southern islands. Most months of the year fall in the monsoon season, while some fall in the summer and autumn seasons.

The islands are scattered across the South, North, and Middle regions of the archipelago, each with its own subtle weather variation.

However, the monsoon offers a more peaceful and serene experience, natural beauty, fewer crowds, and quite reasonable tour packages.

A short 2–3 day trip costs around ₹25,000 per head. A 4–5 day trip costs around ₹35,000 per head. A 6–7 day trip costs around ₹45,000 per head. Foreign nationals need a valid passport or visa, and special permission is required to visit particular areas of the Nicobar Islands.

Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair is still developing its international terminal capacity. A few flights to Malaysia have been conducted, but as of recent reports it mainly serves domestic routes.

BSNL has connected even remote locations in the Andaman Islands for decades. Airtel and Jio have also reached the main tourist islands. Secluded areas far from habitation may still have no connectivity, so download offline Google Maps in advance and carry enough cash.
